Global man completes Central America charity cycling challenge

After eight days pedaling more than 400 miles through three Central American countries, a member of the Global Energy Group’s corporate team has completed an epic cycling challenge to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

Stan Arnaud, Global’s Communications Manager, was among 51 people from around the UK to undertake the cycle from Panama, through Costa Rica, to the city of Granada, in Nicaragua.

The group experienced a wide variety of terrain and cultures as their journey took them through tropical rain forests, along the shores of the Caribbean and past active volcanoes.  Camping rough along the way, they cycled up to 80-miles-a-day, often in very humid conditions and with temperatures reaching 41⁰C.

Stan, 45, said:  “The hills, heat and humidity we encountered daily were a real challenge and our living conditions while we were on the road were pretty basic.  It was a fantastic experience, though, shared with a great group of people, and I am proud to have completed it.

“I have to admit one of the very best bits was the welcome I received from my wife Jude, my son Joe and my daughter Kirsty on my return to Inverness Airport.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who sponsored and encouraged me in undertaking this challenge.  Their support kept me going through some of the toughest times on the road and I am delighted that together we have been able to make a significant contribution to this excellent charity.”

Stan, who works in Global’s North Management HQ in Inverness, raised £4,000 through sponsorship for the challenge and the group as a whole is on course to bring in around £300,000 to help Macmillan Cancer Support’s work in supporting families affected by cancer.

It is still possible to support Stan’s fundraising efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support online, safely and securely, through his page on the Just Giving website at:  www.justgiving.com/stanarnaud/
